Feeling hot hot hot !! Is pretty much what sums up this summer. Although summer is nice, the scorching sun, the sweat, dehydration, irritation sometimes becomes too much to handle. Below are a few Tips and Tricks on how you can handle them.

1) Keep sipping water from time to time. I know this is a no brainer, but it is such a simple thing and we forget to follow it. Drinking normal temperature water or warm water is better than cold water. Although you might feel better after drinking cold water, it is just temporary. You will feel thirsty very soon. If you are like me who always forgets to drink water, you can set up reminders. There are specific apps that remind you to drink water. My Favourite one is Plant Nanny  for IOS and Water Drink Reminder for Android users.

2) Cotton is your best friend this season. Try to wear more of whites and light coloured clothes. You can go for cotton dresses, pants or even cotton sarees. Men can go for crisp cotton shirt and cotton shorts. Go for loose fitted dresses and tops that allows you to breathe. Invest in a good pair of sunglasses to protect your eyes from radiation and also use a hat or a cap every time you step out of the house. Cut down on accessories like huge necklaces. This can irritate your skin on the neck due to heat.

3) Invest in a good sunscreen lotion and also use it. I recommend sunscreen from Lotus or Neutrogena as they really come in handy. Apply it 15 minutes before you step out of the house and you need to reapply it once in 3 hours. Sunscreen can sometimes melt on your face due to humidity and make you look like a white ghost. To avoid this, go for a matte sunscreen lotion. You can also use baby powder on your body and underarms to control sweating and prevent the sunscreen from melting off.

4) Load up on fruits. Include fruits in your meals . If you do not like eating fruits, you can cut them, put them into a blender and make yourself a smoothie. This will fill you up plus helps you remain cool. Watermelon, Oranges, Mangoes, Kiwi, Pineapple these are very good for summer.

5) If you feel dehydrated even after drinking water, then drink tender coconut water. This is one the best natural  energy drink. You can also drink detox water. Just add lemon, mint leaves and cucumber to one glass of water. Wait for 15 minutes and then drink it.

6) Cut down on caffeinated drinks. I know it is easier said than done :). If you are a addict like me, then having coffee or tea 3 to 4 times a day is normal. So you can try reducing it to 2 times and instead substitute with green tea or lemon tea. Also reduce the quantity to half so that you do not miss having it. Avoid soft drinks as it makes your body feel tired and makes you feel more thirsty.

7) Do not have shower too many times to feel fresh. Have shower maximum 2 times, specifically after workout. Change into fresh washed clothes. For your hair, invest in a good dry shampoo. That way you do not have to wash your hair every single day and use dry shampoo every alternate day to leave your hair feeling fresh and smell good.Lastly you can wrap some ice cubes in a towel and place them on your body and face for a cooling effect 🙂

Hope some of these tips come useful to you. Have a great Summer 🙂

Hello There !!!

This is a different kind of post. I wanted to tell you some of the very useful  hacks using Rubbing Alcohol which can be used to clean literally anything without damaging the products. I had seen some of these on YouTube and wanted to try out if these really work. So here it is.

1. Cleaning devices – It cleans phones, laptops, iPad , watches , TV screen .

2. Cleaning shoes – It can be used for cleaning sandals, shoes and it also removes any stain . I would not recommend it on leather shoes. I tried it and it did not help much with stains.

3. Fix broken makeup – Yes this is huge. You know the mini heart attack you get when you drop some of your favourite makeup , well you don’t need to worry anymore 🙂

So these are the things you need.

Rubbing Alcohol

Paper Wipes

Small towel

Q tip ( ear bud )

Tweezer (optional)

For laptop, cellphones and other electronics:

-> Spray a few drops of rubbing alcohol on the paper towel.

-> Wipe and clean using the towel.

You can see the amount of dust collected from the keyboard.

-> To clean the keyboard and USB slot , use a Q tip dipped in rubbing alcohol . It is completely safe.

For sandals:

The right sandal is cleaned up

-> Spray rubbing alcohol directly on the shoes

-> Use a piece of cloth and rub the stains .

-> You can also use it to clean inside the shoes.

-> Spray baby powder for shoes to be smelling fresh :). This is optional

For broken makeup products :

-> Spray some rubbing alcohol on the product till it’s soggy.

-> Break it into powder using a tweezer or any sharp object.

-> Use a few more drops of the rubbing alcohol and use a spoon to even out .

-> Press a paper wipe on it and then remove all the excess from the sides.

-> Place it in freezer for around 4 to 5 hours and you are all set to use it again:)

You can use it to fix powder, eyeshadow and pretty much anything.

In case you are wondering where to get rubbing alcohol from, I ordered it here and it’s really affordable .

Hope this was useful 🙂 Do try it out and let me know 🙂

Until Next Time,

Before you decide to quit, give it one more try

Before you forgive, learn to say sorry

Before you get tired, give it one more push

Before giving your opinion, learn to listen

Before you demand attention, learn to respect

All it takes is just a moment to stop and think.

Being alive is not living a life. Life is like a heartbeat line, with ups and downs. Our heart is fine as long as it’s this way. If the line gets straight, we are in trouble, most likely dead. The minute our life becomes stagnant without any experiences, our soul is dead. We are just alive and no longer living. Living is not about being perfect or doing the right thing all the time or about never breaking the rule. Living is an art. An art to find out the purpose of our existence. Even if you don’t, just go with the flow. In this process lies the countless experiences, good and bad, mistakes, pitfalls, betrayal, love, relationships, fun, laughter and excitement.

When you feel lost within yourself, when the mind is playing a wrestling match inside your head, try helping others in any small way possible. Give, Give and Give. Giving is not charity. Giving is a selfishness of your heart to feel happy for our self. Get selfish, help others and you will not regret. Do it for yourself. On the death bed, nobody thinks about how much wealth they made or how many houses they own. You only think about your loved ones, your regrets for not being there for them, regrets for not following up your dreams, regrets for not trying harder. So learn to give and you will not regret. If you are scared, pray, hold hands with your loved one and take a step forward together.

Before you give up, try harder one last time.

Stop what you are doing and think about anything you love. A baby’s innocent face, selfless love of your dog, your mom’s/dad’s smile, tight hug from your love. Watch the vast sea and get lost in thoughts. Never shy away from your feelings, listen to it and absorb. Smile at the positive ones and frown at the negative ones. Give it one second and move on.

You fall, u need to get up and move on. I won’t promise that u’ll not fall again, but I promise it gets easy. To Start is the toughest. Fear of failure stops me from even trying out something. I go weak when I am craving for success with perfection If you too feel the same, try thinking u’ll fail and there is nothing to lose. It tricks your mind, gets you to concentrate on the process rather than the result. Overcoming the fear of failure and starting something by itself will be your first step to success.

Before you decide to quit, give it one more try.

I am a movie buff. I can watch any kinda movie, of course there are some exceptions. It could be in the theatres, Netflix, YouTube or Einthusan. There are some movies that actually leave an impact on you. I am not talking about the after effects of a movie which I usually have for a week or so. Like say I watched Superman, I would be in that same mode and makeup stories in my head of how it will be if I had a superpower blah blah. What I am talking about is movies that teach us something. Enough of my ranting. Here is list of 3 such movies that I watched recently and i highly recommend 🙂

1) In-Lawfully Yours – This was released in 2016 and I watched it on Netflix. Starring Chelsey Crisp, Lisa Renz, Leticia Rivera and directed by Robert Kirbyson. I never really had any expectations from this movie and the name itself was a bit weird to me. The synopsis was even more weirder where it said ‘the girl falls for her sis-in-law’s husband’..huhh..Neways, I started watching it and I lovedddd it. It is not like any cliche RomCom where boy and gal get attracted to each other , lot of nudity, pub nights, drinking blah blah. This is a very simple love story where the boy and girl actually fall in love after getting to know each other. I will not spill the beans but let me tell you a draft version.
Jesse, a New Yorker, whose husband cheats on her and head for a divorce. Her father-in-law dies and Jesse returns to her widowed mother-in-law’s town to help her pack so that she can move in with her son. Here she gets acquainted with the local pastor who is her widowed bro-in-law. What follows is the struggle for Jesse to fit into the new town and in the process falls in love with the pastor. Things get more complicated and there’s  witty humour between the couple in quite a lot of scenes.

The love story between the two is shown in such a beautiful and pure form. Also it shows a very beautiful bond between the daughter-in-law and mother-in-law. I just fell for it. Very rarely do I get to see such movies nowadays, especially in Hollywood. I was not really surprised when the movie got just 3/5 in IMDB coz I know people don’t dig for such meaningful deep stories anymore. I loved the simplicity, humour and of course the love 🙂

pink-hindi-movie-dialogues-shows-how-the-society-treats-our-women2) PINK – No points for guessing this. It’s in the news for quite sometime now. I watched this with my mom. I felt like every girl in India will relate to this. It focuses on sexual crimes against women and how it is perceived in India. There is lot of victim shaming due to which, more than 50% of women who go through it, never even file a complaint. This movie exactly depicts that and the courtroom drama that follows in the second half keeps the audience occupied. Flawless acting by all the main characters Amitabh Bacchan, Taapsee Pannu and Kirti Kulhari.

Throughout the first half,  I was hoping and praying that the girls are safe and nothing more terrible happens to them :(. Through the second half, I felt I could understand and feel every dialogue the girls told in the courtroom. Especially there is a scene where Tapsee says ‘Kisiko Achha lagta hain Sir Ki Is Tarike se Chue, Zabardasti?’ and the way she says it, I literally felt something crawling on my back and got goosebumps. It’s a must watch movie. If you still haven’t, what are you waiting for?

3) Gone Baby Gone – This is a fantastic thriller movie directed by Ben Affleck. With a fantastic casting like Casey Affleck, Michelle Monaghan, Morgan Freeman and Ed Harris, you can expect some real good acting. Well, before i watch such movies, i make sure there is no ghost or supernatural powers involved. That is because such movies continue to haunt me forever :(. Ok so coming back to Gone Baby Gone. A 4 year old girl kid goes missing from her house at night. Investigation begins but there are no clues or suspects for the next 3 days. The Baby’s mom is a drug addict and doesn’t show any remorse. The baby’s aunt takes this case to 2 private investigators. Then 2 more detectives join in this search and they discover it is not just a straightforward kidnapping case. But this is not the end.

After the first half, the story will totally take a turn and by the end you will be left wondering what just happened. It gets confusing and for a already confused girl like me, I had to read the Wikipedia later to understand each and every detail:P. Do not miss this movie. It is available on Netflix. It is one such movie which makes you think about what’s right, what’s wrong, the law system and throws a hard slap on reality. The only part that I hated is the ending but then again it’s each one’s personal opinion. I don’t wanna give out more details on this. Watch and let me know if you liked it 🙂

I thought I am done with 3, I suddenly remembered this next movie. How could I not mention it. It beats all the above 3 movies to no 1.

4) Don’t Breathe – Ohhh My Godddd !!!! This was my reaction when I watched this. Like I said earlier, I make sure it’s not a horror story. But again my guy had told me it’s a little scary. I was comfortable when one of my cousin who is equally scared as me was ready to accompany me and 2 other brave cousins of mine :P. It had me on on the edge of the seat throughout the movie, every minute. There are some scenes where there is absolute no volume or noise. It’s just quiet and dark and people moving around, you don’t know what is gonna happen next. Full credits to the camera work, they have shown some scenes like real life.

Stephen Lang stars in Screen Gems' horror-thriller DON'T BREATHE.

Three young burglars (a gal and 2 guys) hatch a plan to steal a hefty sum of money from a blind man’s house. The small time thieves gather information about this house in an abandoned neighbourhood where an old blind man lives with his dog and is believed to have got a hefty settlement from a court case. They break into the house with ease and expect to walk out with the money without any hassles.Once they are in, the tables turn. The rest of the movie is all about the burglars trying to escape the house alive.Yes, the blind man is scary and his dog is even more scarier. There is also a secret revealed which is totally shocking. Me and my cousin were literally covering our eyes with our hands and were watching through the gap between our fingers :P. And yes, we also embarrassed ourselves by screaming a couple a times. Hats off to the director Fede Alvarez and the blind man played by Stephen Lang. Do not miss this movie, you will not regret 😛

It’s one of my most favorite times of the year again :). Ganesh Chaturthi… I am from the coastal city of Mangalore and here we call it CHOUTHI :). So what is Chouthi ? Lord Ganesha is the elephant-headed son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and Chouthi is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesha. Lord Ganesha is also a symbol of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune. On this day,  we pray to God that every new task or job we start is successfully done without any obstacles. Also to grant us with good health and happiness. Now that you know what Chouthi is, let me tell you a little about how important this festival to me is.

In Hinduism there are so many Gods and Goddesses. If you ask me which god do i believe in the most, I would say Ganapathy :). To explain why, let me put it this way. We all know mothers are the next best thing to God or rather Mothers are equal to God. So when someone says Mother, my Mom ‘s face comes to my mind. I see God in her. Similarly you will see your mother’s face although you know that even other mothers love their children equally. It is just that we can relate so much to our own Mom as we have seen her unconditional love and we have grown up following her beliefs and learnings. Similarly when we say God, I get Ganapathy’s face as he has been the one I believe in the most, from the time I have learnt to pray. He inspires me a lot and gives me strength and confidence from within. He is like my friend and hears me out through prayers. So yes, for me it’s Ganapathy above all. Amir Khan rightly said in 3 idiots movie that our heart is very weak, we need to keep reassuring that it’s going to be fine by saying ‘ALL IZ WELL’ :). It is the same thing. In moments of despair, when we doubt ourselves or when things are not under control, we need to reassure ourselves. I get that by praying. That brings confidence in me and I am assured that there is someone looking out for me and it is going to be okay. Praying also teaches us the act of gratitude by being thankful for what we have. Basically it gives us a channel to express ourselves.
Well, enough of this philosophy. It might be very clear by now that i loveeee Lord  Ganapathy 🙂. Chouthi is one of the most important and celebrated festival in my maternal family. So let me tell you about how my family celebrates it.

My maternal side family is a huge one, quite literally too :P. My mom has 8 siblings, 6 boys and 3 girls including herself. I have around 18 cousins and most of them are married, so their spouses to add on.About 35 to 40 people gather in one house and there is total chaos. A chaos that you like to be in. I would call it ‘WONDERFUL CHAOS’ :).The decoration of the pooja Mantap starts the previous night. Oh! I forgot to tell you, the Ganapathy idol that our family worships isn’t the one which we do Visarjan. What is Visarjan ? Well it is nothing but the idol immersion into the sea/river or any water body and usually done for idols made out of mud. But ours is made of silver and is passed on to generations. My grandpa received it from his father when he was a small boy and my grandpa used to conduct the official pooja until 3 years back when he passed away :(. Now it is passed on to my eldest uncle and he performs the pooja. This particular Ganapathy idol has been there for more than 200 years in my family. Isn’t that spectacular? It has been passed on to so many generations and we still pray with the same devotion :). It is indeed a grand event for our whole family. So here is the silver idol.

Lord Ganapathy silver idol

Below is the Ganesha mantap for idol, flowers for decoration and the pooja mantap set up the previous night.

On Chouthi day we have to prepare the Ganesha Mantap where the idol will be placed. My uncle performs the customs. Here it is. He is all set 🙂

Performing Mantap Pooja

Every year the mantap is decorated with different themes. This year it was the arecanut(betel nut)leaves and flowers theme. It looked so so beautiful, we couldn’t take our eyes off  :). So once the idol is placed in the Ganesha mantap, uncle will place it on the pooja mantap in the centre.Look how gorgeous the Lord looks.

rsz_fullsizerender_8 (1)There are lamps and diyas lit around, pooja thali has been kept ready, aarthi is getting prepped up. Then for around an hour my uncle goes through all the stotras basically asking for the family’s prosperity.

Pooja mantap

Once this is done, ladies will gather together and sing bhajans in Lord Ganesha’s praise. Then we place all the  food as prasadam in front of God. Now it is time for aarti. There are 3 levels in this. The small aarti, medium one and a big aarthi. Everyone stand up to pray holding their palms in namaste position and my uncle does the aarti. Oh what a beautiful sight indeed!

I close my eyes every now and then to pray deeply.I am filled with emotions and  have tears in my eyes. I see everyone around me joining hands and praying with utmost dedication. Then we offer  a pradikshina(turning round in a circle with hands joined ) to God. After this it’s time to make a harake(heartfelt wish).Once that is done we do another pradakshina. Then it’s time to prepare the Naivedya.Naivedya is the offering to God and should be done before we recieve the prasadam. This Naivedya will be on 2 banana leaves. All the married ladies come forward one by one and serve the food on the leaf and here is the final look :).

rsz_fullsizerender_27Then we seek blessings from the the eldest family member,  my Grandma and she applies Shri Gandha (sandal paste) on our forehead. Then my uncle offers theertha(holy water) to everyone,  one at a time. Then there is a prarthane(prayer). We all pray in unison for the well-being and prosperity of our family :). So after this the pooja is officially complete.

Its 4 pm by the time all this done and everyone is super hungry. Now comes the hogging part:).All the finger licking good food. We sit on the floor and banana leaves are laid in front of us and food is served. There are countless items and each one tastes better than the other:). Now you might ask where is the pic ..well I was so hungry that i forgot to click pictures..sorry :(…Then we had a nice family time, chit chatting and laughing. A day well spent 🙂 .

Do you have any questions on this? Did you celebrate Chouthi? Do let me know in the comments :)..

Until then,
